Breed Record Supplements

Every quarter The Kennel Club issues a Breed Records Supplement (BRS) for each Breed Group. Great Danes can be found in the Working Group Supplement.

The main section records all the litters registered with the Kennel Club in that Quarter.

“The information contained in the ‘Litters’ section is in alphabetical order by breeder and includes the date of birth of the litter, the name of the sire followed by the name of the dam and in brackets the date of birth of the dam, the date of her previous litter (if any), the total number of litters to date and the total number of pups to date. This is followed by details of all the pups in the current litter which have been registered during the quarter.”

“The abbreviation (KCAB) which appears behind a breeder’s name indicates that the litter has been bred by a member of the Assured Breeder Scheme.”

There is a wealth of information in each quarter’s BRS about who is breeding and what they have bred along with results of current health tests. It is interesting to see how many breeders are not following recommendations on breeding bitches. With the number of Great Danes ending up in Rescue in the current economic climate perhaps we should be questioning the ethics of breeding from very young bitches and the number of litters some breeders are continuing to produce.
